Our Action plan

The electronic music scene in Oulu has thrived post-Covid, with new talent enriching our vibrant community. However, scheduling conflicts have emerged as technologies of the past have faded in use. Our goal is to unite the community using oulu.ug, a free communal platform that:

  • Facilicitates collaboration among organizers to foster cooperation instead of competition through shared communal calendar and opening up communication channels.
  • Encourages and enables new enthusiasts to join and contribute to the community.
  • Showcases Oulu's rich electronic music culture to the world in its all forms.

By 2026, when Oulu will receive increased international attention being the European Capital of Culture we aim to showcase our city's diverse electronic music culture globally and foster an inclusive environment where new talent can thrive.

Bringing Organizers Together (Early 2025)

In first phase, our primary goals are to open communication channels among electronic music organizers and to achieve a high adoption rate (90%+) for our communal event calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts. We will begin laying the foundation for collaborative development of the oulu.ug concept further.

  • Open communication channels between event organizers.
    • Easy-to-join chat platform for event organizers supporting Signal, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Matrix.
    • A communal event calendar for organizers to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • Begin to involve devouts and volunteers to develop the oulu.ug concept further.
  • Assess the IT services required for collaboration.
  • Promoting Oulu as safe rave space, raising awareness.
    • Organize meet-and-greets & joint education to build trust and increase knowledge and preparedness. First session: May 2025.
    • Foster further development of safe space practices among event organizers and the rave community.

Pathways for Inspiring New Talents (Mid 2025)

We aim to cultivate a thriving electronic music community by nurturing new talents and enthusiasts, ensuring that the local electronic music scene continues to evolve and expand.

  • Building a community-driven contact interface for those interested in getting involved in electronic music subcultures.
  • Assess the needs and interests of new enthusiasts.
  • Guidance according to their individual interests.
  • Establish a network among organizers, artists of various fields and other actors within the electronic music subcultures.
  • Motivate potential mentors to pave the way for new talents to connect.
  • Connect new talents with mentors, enabling professional and artistic growth.
  • Mentorship programs for enthusiastics under the guidance of professionals in their respective fields.

3) oulu.ug Website Showcase (Throughout 2025)

The ultimate goal of this phase is to prepare Oulu for its increased point of focus as the European Capital of Culture 2026 by showcasing the rich diversity of our local electronic music scene. oulu.ug will become a vibrant showcase for the entire electronic music community, creating an unforgettable wow factor that will elevate Oulu's reputation as a hotspot for electronic music and a city that celebrates culture. Through collaborative content creation, we'll give local artists the global spotlight they deserve.

While motivating the key actors within the subculture is essential to engagement, lowering the threshold for aspiring artists and new collectives to publish their content and create their own portfolios enables the future growth of the culture even more. The key points in this third phase are:

  • Highlight the whole diverse electronic music scene of Oulu
    • Showcases for all rave collectives in Oulu
    • Artist biographies and catalog; including but not limited to:
      • DJs and music producers;
      • VJs and other visual artists;
      • Performance artists;
      • All other artists related to electronic music subcultures in any way.
  • Encouraging new involvement by showcasing the liveliness of the local rave scene.
  • Lowering the bar for content creation, enabling aspiring artists to make themselves known.

By fostering collaborative content creation through oulu.ug, we're not only showcasing vibrancy and diversity of our rich local electronic music culture but also directing newcomers to join the culture via responsible actors who share the common goal of promoting Oulu as a safe rave space.
